My goal is simple: Intellectual enrichment and the use of my knowledge to help those in need of a helping hand. Passion and desire are the internal instincts that have brought me this far in life, and are the core characteristics that I rely on to carry me through my Socialist life. My life experiences have helped me to appreciate the value of this goal, and I look forward to reaching it.
I have an understanding of seven principles of public life. These are selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. I want a more just, more enlightened country; one that pays its workers a living wage, that bans human exploitation and keeps our food safe, that guarantees comprehensive, public health care for all; that invests in high quality education for our children, that ensures dignity and security for seniors and that protects our civil and political rights. I was very much interested in understanding the forces behind the social, economic, and political structure of UK society and the process by which people create their identities within this structure while changing it. Law School provided me with the insight into the theory and structure of the legal system as well as the historical and social journeys that laws travel from their conception to application. The Political Science program at the University of London did not only provide a supportive environment to pursue these intellectual interests but also ensured that I acquire the skills to transfer my academic interests to a professional setting.
My professors challenged their students to conduct research, write analytical essays, engage in class debates, and make presentations. These experiences prepared me well for the real world where the ability to write well, analyze precisely, facilitate discussions, and speak persuasively are essential skills. For a more practical application, I am interested in how public policies can be structured to create social and economic opportunities and to foster equality. By pursuing a legal & Political path, I feel that I am positioning myself to help shape, define, and implement such policies. I always make my decision based upon the interest of the people that I serve. We have all witnessed the politics of self-aggrandizement, which of course serves no one but the self. In my opinion a public elected servant is a noble profession, but one that is rooted in listening to the community and advocating for that community or society to make it a better place.
I believe in a healthy representative democracy by bringing the political process closer to local residents. I passionately believe in creating conditions for increased opportunities and raising standards by establishing out of poverty.
‘Reparations cannot replace the elaboration of a new, progressive vision of the human future out of the shards of twentieth-century history.’ ‘My hope would be that in the future there develops a movement attuned to changing inequality that will be relatively uninterested in the past, differences and creating vulnerability, but which seeks to create a better life’.
‘What I would like to do is contribute to the suring up of a future-orientated vision, to melt the differences between people and to strengthen views on what we have in common and what is really possible.’
I have not yet met an individual whose life did not involve special circumstances. Therefore, I have come to believe that judgment should not lie in the quantity of struggle, but rather in the quality of the character that results. I have, to this point in my life, done all that I can do to prepare myself for this endeavour. I desire the opportunity to share my knowledge and insight, to continue my candidacy in preparation for my professional career, and most importantly, to one day contribute to a Political and legal system with which I am so taken. I consider this candidacy to be a challenge and it would be an honour for me to accept that challenge on behalf of you.
